Sometimes children need a psychological assessment to find out more about their abilities and challenges. This helps the people around them best understand their needs. At Dolphin Tribe, we use evidence-based gold standard assessments tailored to your individual child.
Our assessments include:
Cognitive Assessment (IQ Tests)
IQ tests determine a child’s/adult's cognitive strengths and weaknesses. They can help examine intellectual difficulty or disability; identify intellectual giftedness; diagnose specific learning disorders; and investigate why your child has ongoing academic difficulties despite school intervention. The results help parents and teachers support the child and ensure their learning needs are met.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by difficulties with concentration, attention and impulse control. Even though they attempt to focus on their work, children with ADHD are easily distracted and can have trouble keeping up in class and maintaining friendships.
Left untreated, ADHD can have a negative impact on a person’s family, social, school or work life.
We use gold standard assessment tools including Conners 3.
Behavioural assessments help determine whether your child displays behaviours that are more difficult and challenging than their peers. Useful in diagnosing disorders such as ADHD, conduct disorder and oppositional defiant disorder, behavioural assessment is the first step towards intervention.
Behavioural concerns that may lead to assessment include:
Difficulties with peer relations.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by difficulties in communication, social interactions and restricted or repetitive patterns of behaviour ranging from mild to severe. Symptoms are often evident from early childhood, but may not be recognised until later when social demands become greater.
Early diagnosis and treatment provide the best outcomes for children with ASD – if you have concerns, it is important to have your child assessed.
Autism Assessment includes:
Autism Observation Diagnostic Assessment
Autism diagnostic interviews with parents or carers
Adaptive behaviour assessment (if appropriate).
Cognitive assessment (if appropriate).
These are useful in measuring a child’s academic skills in reading, comprehension, mathematics and spelling. Educational assessment can help identify particular academic or cognitive weaknesses that may indicate a specific learning disorder distinct from overall intellectual ability. A diagnosed specific learning disorder can help school staff provide an individualised education plan for your child.
Vocational Assessments and Testing
Vocational assessment can be useful for your child/adolescent to work out the best choices for their studies, courses and subjects as well as future vocations based on their interests, skills, motivation and psychological needs and capacity .
Our practitioners can help in assessing learning styles, exploring pre-vocational interests, identify cognitive strengths and challenges
The vocational testing and assessment incorporates:
