What Is Child Psychology?
Understanding Your Child’s Emotional Development
Child psychology focuses on the unique emotional and developmental needs of children (ages 3–12) and young adolescents. Early experiences shape how children learn to regulate emotions, form relationships and engage with the world.
Early Intervention for Childhood Development
The early years of a child’s life are a critical window for brain development, emotional regulation, and learning. When mental health or developmental issues are identified and addressed early, children have a much better chance of building resilience, forming healthy relationships, and succeeding at school and at home.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When should I see a child psychologist?
If your child is experiencing persistent worry, difficulty with attention, emotional outbursts, social withdrawal, school-refusal or developmental delays, early assessment can make a difference.
Is a referral required?
While many psychological services can be accessed without a referral, obtaining one from your GP may help with Medicare and private health fund rebates.
What should I expect in the first session?
You’ll meet our child psychologist, share your child’s history, background and concerns. We’ll collaborate to create a plan tailored to your child’s needs and discuss next steps.
Do you also provide assessments for ADHD, ASD or giftedness?
Yes — our team has specialist experience in diagnostic assessments and support plans for ADHD, ASD, giftedness and related learning or emotional challenges.
